Oprah Winfrey weighs in on Baltimore City Schools

As reported on WBAL

BALTIMORE -- When Oprah talks, people listen. On Wednesday, Baltimore City leaders responded to her harsh words on the state of the city's education.

"I believe we are face to face with a frightening national emergency," Winfrey said on her TV show.

"I think the state of education in the city of Baltimore is an atrocity, an atrocity," Winfrey told 11 News Monday night.

She called it a crime, and her words have this city talking.

What did O'Malley have to say?

"I'm sure she didn't mean it maliciously," Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley told 11 News Wednesday.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Martin.
